New Orleans with Kids

Yes! It can be fun to visit New Orleans with KIDS. It's actually a great city filled with lots of fun activities and places to explore that are a far cry from the typical Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras nightlife.

New Orleans, rich in history, culture, and Southern charm, offers an array of exciting activities for families with children. You can explore the Louisiana Children's Museum with its numerous interactive exhibits promoting learning through play, or visit the Audubon Zoo, known for its exotic animals and immersive habitats. The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the Insectarium, both nearby, are also worth a visit. Don't miss Storyland, a fairytale-themed playground in City Park, along with the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, home to a historic carousel. For science lovers, the Entergy Giant Screen Theater offers a captivating IMAX experience. Even a stroll through Jackson Square will delight the senses with sights, sounds, and smells of this rich cultural experience. Finish your day with a kid-friendly cooking class where you can learn to make famous NOLA dishes like beignets or gumbo. Remember, no trip to New Orleans is complete without experiencing live jazz music, available in various family-friendly venues across the city!

From the Zoo to the Aquarium of the Americas to Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, there were many opportunities for educational moments. We rode the streetcars through the Garden District, which was just fun our little adventurers to experience a different mode of transportation.

You can't visit New Orleans with kids and not find yummy things to eat. During the day, it's easy to find kid-friendly dining options, particularly near the waterfront. We ate beignets at Cafe du Monde, seafood at Oceana and Deanie's and a highly caffeinated, over-sugared, delicious breakfast at District Donuts.
