new york city in a weekend

Every so often we plan a getaway just for ourselves. Although, Russell and I would LOVE to take our kiddos to New York City, this trip was just us. We had only a few days to spend, lists of things to do and somehow we managed to do quite a lot. I think it helps that the city is bursting with energy to the point where I can hardly sleep!

Like many of our travels, I started with the most important thing--where to eat. With a New York City weekend, it's hard to narrow it down, but we managed to put together this amazing list of Where to Eat in New York City.

where to go with 2 days in new york city

  • Empire State Building - go at midnight to avoid the lines and get phenomenal views!

  • Ice Skating in Rockefeller Square

  • Broadway Shows - Phantom of the Opera, About a Play, Wicked

  • Chinatown

  • Times Square at Night

  • Central Park with a bottle of wine and picnic blanket

  • MOMA

  • Grand Central Station whispering corner

  • Ferry to Statue of Liberty

  • 9/11 Memorial

  • Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center

  • Columbus Circle

where to eat

  • Beauty & Essex
Enter through secret wall behind a pawn shop to be greeted with glamorous decor and a decadent brunch. This place is seriously gorgeous in every way. Make reservations for this one because I'm still dreaming about the "Les, NYC" doughnuts and bite-sized grilled cheese, smoked bacon and tomato soup dumplings.

  • Carmine’s Italian Restaurant

  • John’s on Bleecker Street

  •  ESS-A-BAGEL
Wait in line for this one because it's worth it! Russell almost gave up but these big, soft chewy bagel stuffed with lox and a chive cream cheese shmear remains my favorite to date. We ate them as we walked toward MOMA.  \

What we didn't see

We had to be choosy with our time so sites and activities that had long waits or were further apart had to be kept for another visit. We also saved some for when we take the kids! Ellis Island, Museum of Natural History, Central Park Zoo and frozen hot chocolates at Serendipity seemed more fun with little ones.
